The Stephanie Strickland Memorial Scholarship:
Stephanie Strickland was my most successful student. Her GED test proctor announced that only 3% of them would go on to college. Stephanie told me she was determined to be in that minority no matter what it took. She was halfway through her degree in writing and journalism when she was tragically taken from us, before her brilliance could be fully realized.
This entire project is to honor her. She is the reason for this work, as she wanted more than anything to defy the statistics of her circumstances and be a successful student. This is why the Stephanie Strickland Memorial Scholarship is so important to our organization, because Stephanie was the inspiration for our mission.
Empowerment through Education
In addition to promoting academics and literacy, Empress Land also provides women and children who are victims and survivors or those at risk of domestic violence with a supportive community in which to work toward freedom and independence.
We believe that through outreach, education and support, we can assist families in breaking the cycle of violence. We give these women and children a voice through which they may share their stories and give them hope to find safety through community.
In these cases, tutoring and other empowerment services are provided covertly and at no charge to the client. To determine eligibility and availability of funding for any of our services, please fill out the contact form on the Services page. Explain in the comments the kind of assistance you need and that you want to be considered for pro bono work.
We always accept donations to pay for scholarships benefiting those families.
